The Worthington High School wrestling team won two more matches Thursday evening, edging Kirkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 35-34 and Pipestone Area 48-29.
In the match against K-M-S, the Trojans had wins by fall by Alex Galvez at 106 pounds, Miat Htoo at 138 and Tanner Hennings at 220. Oscar Galvez defeated his opponent by major decision at 120 pounds, and Chase Byrne at 152 and Cole Hennings at 285 picked up three-point wins by decision. WHS also won a match via forfeit.
Worthington earned the narrow one-point win victory thanks to a tiebreaker. The Trojans were able to capture the extra point on the basis of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on K-M-S during the heavyweight match. The first tiebreaker is the number of individual wins by each team, but that was even.
Against Pipestone Area, the Trojans captured four individual matches with pins. Byrne, Mason Schutz at 170, Mu Shee at 195 and Tanner Hennings all won by fall. Worthington also recorded four victories thanks to forfeits. Pipestone Area, meanwhile, got a win by fall by Brayden Burmeister at 113 pounds and Aiden Voss at 182; Davis Budden won by major decision at 138 and Nate Bobendrier at 145.
The Trojans are scheduled to wrestle Saturday in an invitational tournament at Jackson County Central. Action is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
