Trojan gymnastics team back on top with home win

The Worthington Trojans gymnastics team totaled 141.550 points on Thursday in a victorious home meet against Pipestone Area, which had 128.025 points.


Hali Bullerman was once again the winner in the all-around competition for the Trojans, as she finished with a score of 36.65. She took first on the vault with a 9.425, first on the bars with a 9.1 and tied for first on the beam with an 8.8. She was also second in the floor exercise.


Addison Gerber of WHS was second in the all-around with a total of 35.0 points. She was first on the floor with a score of 9.425, second on the beam, third on the bars and fourth on the vault. Olivia Barber, meanwhile, was third in the all-around for the Trojans at 34.875 points and tied for first on the beam while placing second on the bars and third on the floor.


Other top-three finishers for Worthington were Kelsey Soleta, second on the vault and third on the beam, and Cristy Banegas, third on the vault.

In girls basketball Thursday night, visiting Worthington was defeated at New Ulm 76-59. The loss dropped the Trojans to 2-8 on the season.


Leading the way for WHS offensively was Tarren Spartz, who had 18 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Ellie Weg had 14 points and a team-best eight boards, while Madison Beckmann contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Pham Gora had five assists for the Trojans and Grace Barber four.


Worthington head coach Jessica Hogan said New Ulm’s shooting was hard to overcome. The Eagles had some nice runs, but the Trojans answered right back and never went away. She added that she continues to be very encouraged by her team’s growth from game to game.
