The Worthington Trojan boys finished fourth as a team at Friday and Saturday’s state Class AA track and field meet at St. Michael-Albertville.
For the Trojans, Abagotte Opiew had the top individual effort with a second-place finish in the triple jump. His jump of 44 feet, 10.5 inches was just shy of the 44 feet, 10.75 inch leap he had in this month’s Section 2AA meet.
Marenono Opiew, Abagotte’s twin brother, turned in a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.13 seconds. Also coming in third place at state was the WHS 4x800 relay team of Ofbeka Morke, Mason Bobb, Filmon Wolday and Mikele Walu, which concluded its race with a time of 8 minutes and 3.72 seconds.
In other Trojan boys’ results at the state meet, Abagotte Opiew finished sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles and 13th in the long jump. Filmon Wolday was 12th in the 1,600 meters. The WHS 4x400 relay team was disqualified and did not score.
Meanwhile, Worthington’s Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor came up with an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters in the state AA girls meet. The just-graduated senior turned in a time of 26.67 seconds.
The Trojan girls also got an eighth-place finish from their 4x200 relay team of New Gora, Bailey Newman, Pham Gora and Scheitel-Taylor. It had a time of 1 minute and 46.47 seconds. Newman also competed for Worthington in the 100 meters and failed to qualify for the finals.
