The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team, up against the sixth-ranked team in the nation Monday, were blanked by Rochester 3-0 at the Center for Health and Wellness. Game scores were 25-19, 25-12, 25-23.
Minnesota West fell to 3-3 overall on the season. The Lady Jays tried to rally in the third game and did fend off three match points before Rochester, which earned its ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association Preseason Poll, finally clinched the win.
Minnesota West struggled to get an offensive rhythm going against the Yellow Jackets. Dannyn Peterson had a team-best six kills, while Sami Polzin and Kennedy Buckneberg added five kills apiece. Buckneberg also had 10 digs and Jaenid Torres six. Kiarra Danielson had nine set assists and Courtney Moser six.
Monday’s home match followed the playing of four matches over the course of a weekend tournament at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. On Friday, the Lady Jays lost 3-0 to Itasca by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-15, then beat Northland Community & Technical College 3-1 by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22. On Saturday, Minnesota West shut out Alexandria 3-0 by scores of 25-18, 25-11, 25-22; it then lost to Iowa Lakes 3-1 by scores of 25-17, 18-25, 26-24. 25-20.
Minnesota West will play at Minnesota State Fergus Falls on Wednesday night.
