Lady Jays score key volleyball win over Rochester

The Minnesota West women’s volleyball team picked up a huge victory on the road Wednesday night as the Lady Jays defeated arch-rival Rochester 3-1. Game scores were 25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15.


Ella Hesse had a big night for Minnesota West, now 17-6 overall and 8-1 in conference play, with 17 kills and 14 digs while going 14-for-14 serving with two aces. Ella Kamrud contributed 11 kills, Kiarra Danielson had nine kills and 17 digs, Hattie DeVries had nine kills, and Lexi Schreurs was all over the floor for the Lady Jays with 46 set assists, six kills, 14 digs, 13-for-13 with two aces and three blocks.


Also chipping in Wednesday night were Shawna Rogers with 19 digs and 10-for-10 serving with two aces, as well as Courtney Moser with 16-for-18 serving and a pair of aces. The Lady Jays will next entertain Anoka-Ramsey on Friday night at the Center for Health and Wellness.

The Worthington Area Basketball Association is coordinating traveling basketball for boys and girls in fourth through eighth grades.


This traveling basketball league is a competitive league where boys and girls showcase their skills and become part of a traveling team that competes in a league and tournaments throughout the winter. Kids are expected to make all practices and games unless cleared by coaches.


Cost for all fourth-graders is $50. Fees for YMCA members are $80 for fifth-and-sixth-graders and $150 for seventh-and eighth-graders. For non-members, it’s $115 for fifth- and sixth-graders and $180 for seventh- and eighth-graders.
