Lady Jays outlast Riverland for five-game volleyball win

The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team won a five-game thriller at home against Riverland on Wednesday night, scoring the last eight points of the match to get past Riverland. Game scores were 25-13, 22-25, 25-10, 23-25, 15-7.


The Lady Jays broke off to an 8-0 lead in the match’s first game thanks to strong serving from Sophie Larson, a freshman from Slayton. Larson finished the night with a 26-for-27 serving effort with five aces.


After losing game two, the Jays dominated game three and then fell in game four before wrapping things up in strong fashion. Other contributors on the night were Dannyn Peterson, who had nine kills, eight digs and six blocks; Kennedy Buckneberg, who added 16 digs and 14 kills; Kiarra Danielson, who had 11 kills and 18 set assists to go along with 12-of-13 serving and three aces; and Courtney Moser, who chipped in with 17 set assists.


Minnesota West improved to 4-5 overall with the victory.
