Hesse earns MCAC volleyball player of the year honors

Ella Hesse, a freshman outside hitter for Minnesota West Community & Technical College, has been named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Year in women's volleyball.


Hesse racked up 435 kills on the season, averaging 3.82 kills per set with a .264 hitting efficiency. Hesse tallied 430 digs this season, averaging 3.77 digs per set, and she served 23 aces. Hesse led her Lady Jays team to an NJCAA Division III Volleyball Top-15 ranking this season and to the 2023 NJCAA North Plains/Region 13A District finals. She is a graduate of Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School.


Two other Minnesota West volleyball players earned honors as well. Freshman setter Lexi Schreurs, along with Hesse, was named to MCAC South All-Division Team, and sophomore right-side hitter Kiarra Danielson was named to the second team.

Four Minnesota West men's soccer players were named to the All-MCAC Team.


Freshman Anton Cordes, the conference's player of the year, was joined on the all-conference team by forward Prince Lebbi, midfielder Edgar Carillo and defender Dalen Gonzalez.


Additionally, Cordes was named to the All Region 13 men's soccer team.

The Minnesota West men's and women's basketball teams are scheduled to both play two games this weekend. as they're slated to take the court Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Sisseston Wahpeton College.
