Five Trojans earn all-conference basketball honors

Four Worthington High School boys basketball players have earned Big South All-Conference honors, it was announced Monday.


Representing WHS on the All-Conference White Division team -- comprised of Worthington, New Ulm, Marshall and St. Peter -- are junior Kaleb Knothe and senior Abagotte Opiew, who are both first-teamers. Seniors Mikele Walu and Marenono Opiew of the Trojans were both honorable mention picks.


Comprising the rest of the White Division first team are Andrew Elton and Omar Abdi of Marshall, Colton Benson and James Osborne of New Ulm and Tate Olson of St. Peter. Nate Firle of New Ulm is an honorable mention choice.


For the Red Division -- made up of Pipestone Area, Windom Area, Luverne, Redwood Valley and St. James Area -- Gannon Ahrendt and Gavin DeBeer of Luverne, the Arrows' Merrick Heidebrink and Rysley Borman. Redwood Valley's Luke Means and the Eagles' Henry Erickson and Abe McKibbin are first-teamers. Honorable mentions are Carter Sehr of Luverne, Kellen Johnson of Pipestone and Alex Streseman of St. James Area.


For the Blue Division -- comprised of Waseca, Fairmont, Jackson County Central and Blue Earth Area -- first-teamers are Ashton Lloyd of Blue Earth, Sawyer Torsden of Fairmont, Roman Voss, Eric Hesebeck and Travis Rogotzke of JCC. and Damarius Russell and Carson Ohnstad of Waseca. Austin Skaden of Blue Earth, Levi Pooley of Fairmont and Laird Keeton of Waseca are honorable mentions.

The Worthington Trojans' Tarren Spartz has been named to the Big South All-Conference Girls Basketball Team, it was announced Monday.


Spartz, a senior, is included on the first team for the White Division, which is made up of St. Peter, Marshall, New Ulm and WHS. Joining Spartz on the team are Bri Simpson and Randi Wendorff of Marshall, Daviney Dreckman and Brooklyn Lewis of New Ulm and Rhyan Holmgren and Annika Southworth of St. Peter. Chosen as honorable mentions are Leah Jones and Taliegjha Bigler of Marshall and Maddie Kamm of St. Peter.

For the Red Division -- made up of Pipestone Area, Windom Area, Luverne, Redwood Valley and St. James Area -- Christina Wagner and Elizabeth Wagner of Luverne, Arinn McGee and Aubrea Kor of Pipestone Area, Kendall Huhnerkoch of Redwood Valley, Taylor Sodeman of St. James and Hadley Sammons of Windom Area are first-teamers. Luverne's Averill Sehr and Kira John, along with Redwood Valley's Kenzie Lundeen, are honorable mentions.

For the Blue Division -- comprised of Waseca, Fairmont, Jackson County Central and Blue Earth Area -- Brylee Miller and Neveah Rahm of Fairmont, Rylie Cother and Maci Farmer of JCC, and Kloe Wadd, Samantha Azure and Avery Madsen of Waseca are first-teamers. Sophie Keister of Blue Earth and Grace Pendergast and Olivia Ortega of Fairmont are honorable mentions.
