Kinser, Gach set meet records at Tuesday conference meet

The Worthington boys track and field team placed sixth and the Trojans' girls squad was eighth at Tuesday's Big South Conference championship meet at New Ulm.


A couple of Worthington athletes won events while establishing meet records. Austin Kinser set a meet record in the 400 meters, coming in first with a time of 50.79 seconds. Tetlouch Gach, meanwhile, was first in the 110 hurdles and finished with a meet record and personal-best time of 14.89 seconds. Gach also placed third in the 300 hurdles; Kinser was also fifth in the 200 meters.


The day's other first-place result came from Caleb Meyer, who won the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 inches. Teammate Thet Tay was right behind him in second with a leap of 6-0.


Other top WHS placers include: Dillon Zepeda Carranza, third in the triple jump; Hudson Scheepstra, fifth with a PR in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles; Cameron Kinser, seventh with a PR in the 800; and Kenyan Watson, eighth with a PR in the discus.


No Trojan girls claimed first place Tuesday, but senior Madison Sieve had a fine day by placing sixth with a PR in the 1600 and ninth with a PR in the 800. Tiana Garcia was sixth in the 200, Shayla Juarez eighth in the 400, Emily Dahlquist eighth in the 1600 and Kiley Platt 10th in the shot put.


Next up for Worthington is the sectional meet next Wednesday at St. Peter.
