Cubs to play at home for second Sunday in a row, will face Hadley

The Worthington Cubs will be home for the second time in this amateur baseball season on Sunday when they face the Hadley Buttermakers at 2 p.m. at the Worthington Middle School field.
Worthington is 2-2 overall this season and is coming off an 8-5 triumph this past Sunday over visiting Lakefield. Jake Brandner smashed the Cubs' first home run of the year and also connected for a triple. He also started on the mound and threw the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs and no walks while striking out eight.
Will Brandner added a double and single for Worthington, which also got 2 1/3 scoreless innings from relief pitcher Max Ostrem and two more innings of relief from Chase Byrne. Dustin Pronk had two hits and two RBIS for Lakefield, and Bryce Christopher also had two hits.

Minnesota West recently had five student-athletes recognized with All-MCAC baseball team honors.
Named to the Second All-South Division Team were Ales Zhao, Eliecer Gonzalez and Takuto Usami. Receiving Third All-South Division Team recognition were Bryker Smith and Tucker Brandner, who finished his sophomore season and Bluejay career atop the school's career strikeout list among pitchers.

In high school baseball Thursday, Fairmont improved to 16-5 on the spring by blanking visiting Worthington 10-0. The 3-17 Trojans play their regular-season finale today at Luverne.
