Adrian-Ellsworth wins twice on baseball diamond, faces MCC next

The Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons advanced to the Section 3A South Section baseball tournament title game with a pair of wins Saturday.

The Dragons, the tourney's No. 2 seed, scored seven runs in the second — after their first two batters were retired to start the inning — and Matt Geisler fired a one-hit shutout as A-E blanked third-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 8-0 to move on to a match with No. 1 seed Murray County Central scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the Irish Yard in Milroy.

Earlier in the day, the Dragons spotted Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian a 2-0 first-inning lead and then answered with four runs without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the first. The Dragons added one more run in the second and then held on for a 5-4 triumph. Travis Weiss tossed a complete-game four-hitter in the victory.

In Section 3AA softball on Saturday, Jackson County Central exploded for 10 runs in the first inning and wound up pounding New London-Spicer in four innings,15-0. Miley VanDeVere's three-run homer was the biggest hit in that big first.

The top-seeded Huskies will face Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall in a sectional semifinal. That winner will meet the elimination bracket victor for the championship on Thursday.
