Election races set in Cottonwood, Jackson, Murray counties

The filing deadline to run for county offices in the state of Minnesota has come and gone, and area county races are now shaping up.


Among regional counties, Cottonwood County will see a race in County Commissioner District 4 as incumbent Norm Holmen will face Wayne “Gritz” Maras. Incumbent auditor/treasurer Donna Torkelson is being challenged by Linda Loewen, and current recorder Kathleen Kretch will take on Aimee Kruse-Sayavong. Individuals running unopposed include: Larry Anderson, County Commissioner District 1; Donna Gravley; County Commissioner District 3; Tom Appel, County Commissioner District 5; County Sheriff Jason Purrington; and County Attorney Nicholas Anderson.


In Jackson County, County Commissioner District 3 will have one race -- between Roger Pohlman and incumbent Cathy Hohenstein. Also seeking election will be: Scott McClure, County Commissioner District 1; Don Wachal, County Commissioner District 2; Phil Nasby, County Commissioner District 4; James Eigenberg, County Commissioner District 5; Shawn Haken, County Sheriff; and Kristi Meyeraan, County Attorney.


In Murray County, three individuals are seeking election to the County Commissioner District 4 seat. Running for the seat will be Blake Heronimus, Jackie Meier and Stacy Wendorff. Also seeking election will be: Dennis Welgraven, County Commissioner District 3; Heidi Winter, County Auditor/Treasurer; Karen Brown, County Recorder; Heath Landsman, County Sheriff; and Travis Smith, County Attorney.
