Rain near end of April gives boost to year-round precipitation total

Rainfall was nearly 50% greater than normal during the month of April, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.


Worthington recorded 4.57 inches of precipitation during the just-completed month, compared to the normal amount of 3.07 inches. More than half of that moisture, 2.56 inches, was measured this past Monday and Tuesday. A total of 1.08 inches of rain was also recorded April 2nd and 3rd.


As for temperatures, Worthington had an average high of 59.0 degrees this past month, which is 3.9 warmer than the typical April high of 55.1. A high of 86 degrees was recorded on April 23rd; it was 84 on the 17th, 83 on the 22nd and 82 on the 13th.


The average low in Worthington in April was 33.5 degrees, or .8 degrees warmer than the average of 32.7. The lowest temperature reading was 14 degrees, which came on both April 7th and 8th.


For the first four months of the year, Worthington has an average high of 44.0 degrees and average low of 19.9. By comparison, average highs and lows for the first four months of the year are 36.2 and 17.2 degrees, respectively. Worthington has received 6.11 inches of precipitation in January through April, compared to the normal amount of 6.06 inches.
