Worthington Public Utilities has received notification from our Regional Transmission Organization that our region is currently under a Level 2 Energy Emergency Alert. This means that existing electric generation capacity is NOT expected to be adequate to meet the demand for electricity.
Worthington Public Utilities is currently operating our local generation plant to help the regional system meet the demand and we are requesting that ALL Worthington Public Utilities' electric customers take whatever steps they can to conserve electricity at this time.
Steps that can be taken include turning off all unnecessary lighting and electrical appliances, turning up your thermostat a few degrees and delaying the use of electrical appliances such as clothes washers, dryers and dishwashers until the current situation improves.
Failure to reduce the demand for electricity at this time could lead to the issuance of a Level 3 Energy Emergency Alert and the requirement that we reduce electric load through the implementation of rolling blackouts throughout the community.
The public's cooperation at this time is greatly appreciated.
