The Minnesota West Lady Jays exploded out of the gate for 32 first-quarter points Saturday and went on to roll to a 92-42 win over the St. Cloud Tech Cyclones at the Center for Health and Wellness.
The Lady Jays led 55-16 at halftime and forced 27 St. Cloud Tech turnovers in the first 20 minutes. For the game, Olivia Hayenga led the way with 22 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Madisyn Huisman contributed 14 points and Tia Murray and Dasia Potter added 12 points each as Minnesota West won its 11th straight game. The Lady Jays, ranked third in the nation in the latest poll, now have a record of 16-1.
In the men’s game, Minnesota West led by four at halftime but got outscored 54-37 in the second half to lose 90-77. Elijah Williams had a strong game in defeat for the Bluejays, as he scored 28 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Sam Daho added 14 points for Minnesota West, now 5-11 on the year.
The men and women each host Minnesota State of Fergus Falls in a doubleheader Wednesday night.

The Worthington Trojans boys basketball team downed visiting Albert Lea 78-51 on Saturday at home.
WHS led 41-32 at halftime and kept adding to its lead in the second half. Jacari Swinea and Mikele Walu each had 16 for the Trojans, who are now 6-2 on the season. Abagotte Opiew contributed 15 points and Zach Hayenga added 11.

The Worthington Trojans gymnastics team finished third Saturday in a nine-team meet, as host New Prague took first with a team score of 146.3 points. Mankato West was second, and Worthington was third with a total score of 138.7.
Halli Bullerman took third in the all-around for WHS with a score of 36.4. The Trojans’ next meet is at home Thursday against Pipestone Area.

In boys hockey Saturday, it was Waseca taking care of the Trojans 7-5. Spenser Nickel had two goals and assist for WHS, Caden Van Briesen had two goals and Anthony Jimenez a goal and an assist. Easton Newman, Riley Woodbury, Ian Bumgardner and Evan Bumgardner had one assist apiece. WHS, now 1-5, fought back in the third period after being down 7-2 but ran out of time.
In the girls game, Waseca blanked the Trojans 5-0. Worthington is now 2-7.

The WHS wrestling team was defeated in a pair of matches Friday night at home against Fulda-Murray County Central and Fairmont/Martin County West.
Against Fulda/MCC, the Trojans finished the match in a 34-34 tie but lost based on a tiebreaker formula. Kasey Gerhard won by fall at 285 pounds for the Trojans, as did Ethan Meyer at 132. Oscar Galvez was victorious by technical fall at 126 pounds, Alex Galvez won by major decision at 113 and Chase Byrne by decision at 160.
Fairmont/MCW, ranked eighth in the state, beat the Trojans 48-19. Oscar Galvez and Meyer each picked up additional triumphs in that match.
The Trojans will next wrestle at home in a dual against New Ulm on Tuesday.
