Armed standoff in Windom results in arrest

A 46-year-old Windom man was arrested following an armed standoff Thursday evening.


According to a press release from the Windom Police Department, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Sixth Avenue at 7:59 p.m. Thursday following a report of a possible domestic assault. Investigators learned the suspect was inside with a weapon. Due to the report of weapons inside the residence and the threat of violence, the HEAT team was activated to assist at the scene. At approximately 11:23 p.m., the male suspect walked outside of the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Andrew Niskanen, 46, of Windom was arrested on charges of domestic assault by strangulation. The Windom Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Westbrook Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the HEAT team.
