Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor contributed in several ways Monday night, scoring 16 points while adding nine rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots to help lead Worthington to an 86-72 victory over Jackson County Central in a high school girls basketball game in Jackson.
Ellie Weg led the Trojans in scoring with 21 points and also pulled down 17 rebounds. Olivia Hayenga contributed 17 points for WHS, while Tarren Spartz had 13 points.
Worthington Head Coach Eric Lindner noted that his team led 22-19 with 7:42 before halftime, and then proceeded to surge to a 44-33 lead at the break. Lindner added that the Trojans led by just five, 55-50, with 8:40 to go in the game, but the Trojans outscored the Huskies 31-22 the rest of the way.
WHS won despite a combined 51 points from a pair of JCC players Lindner said can shoot the ball from four feet behind the 3-point line. Sadie Voss had a game-best 31 points for the Huskies, while Maci Farmer chipped in with 20.
The victory was the second straight for the Trojans, who are now 9-5 overall. WHS will take on Marshall in a 7:30 p.m. Thursday game that will be broadcast on 104.3 The Bridge.
