Aubrey Metheny scored with a little less than seven minutes remaining Thursday night, breaking a two-all tie and leading host Marshall to a 3-2 win over Worthington in a first-round sectional girls hockey game.
The Tigers went ahead 2-0 on a first-period goal by Metheny and a second-period tally from Leah Schaefer, but the Trojans fought back. Makenna Nickel scored on an assist from Kessey Aljets at the 10:00 mark of the second period, and Aljets knotted the game at two exactly 60 seconds later thanks to an assist from Peyton Nickel.
WHS goalie Lila Newman finished the game with 30 saves; the Trojans were outshot 33-13. Worthington concludes its 2021-2022 season with a record of 5-20.

In boys hockey, meanwhile, visiting Worthington rallied three times from one-goal deficits on its way to topping Fairmont, 6-4.
Easton Newman’s first-period goal, assisted by Konner Honius, got the Trojans even at 1-1, and an Ian Bumgardner goal just 1:01 into the second period on an assist from Andrew Benson made it 2-2. The Cardinals once again grabbed a one-goal lead, but Blake Ahrenstorff netted a goal on a pass from Levi Kuhl at 9:46 of the second for a 3-all deadlock. Ahrenstorff then scored two more goals in the second period – both on the power play -- to complete a hat trick and put WHS up by two heading into the final period.
Bumgardner scored a second goal at 7:15 of the third period to ice the game. The Trojans, who outshot Fairmont 41-30, are now 10-11.
