The Worthington Trojans volleyball team evened its record at 1-1 on Saturday by defeating Blue Earth 3-1 in the Big South Conference Tournament in Marshall. Games scores were 25-17, 25-10, 24-26, 25-14.
Leading the way offensively for WHS were Ellie Weg with 19 kills and Tarren Spartz with 17 kills. Madison Beckmann and Janessa Hammann contributed eight kills apiece.
Also chipping in for the Trojans on Saturday was Addison Gerber, who had 52 set assists and three ace serves. Maddie Peterson went 18-for-21 serving and Tarren Spartz was 17-for-19.
Worthington’s next match will be its home opener on Thursday, when it faces Pipestone Area.

In boys soccer, Worthington was on the road against New Prague on Saturday and came away with a 2-0 victory.
Oscar Galvez scored for WHS from approximately 45 yards out, and the Trojans avenged a shutout loss to New Prague in a scrimmage one week ago. Worthington is now 2-0 on the season.

In girls soccer, the host Trojans were defeated 8-0 by Garrettson, South Dakota. One high point was the continued strong play of WHS goalie Maylin Fabian Perez, who made many saves and stopped a penalty shot. The Trojans are now 0-1-1 on the season.
