A 2023 Worthington Police Department numbers report shows law enforcement trends in the community during the past year.
Among some of the noteworthy trends are:
Worthington police investigated a total of 157 thefts in 2023, a 53.9% increase over the previous year’s total of 102.
Dog-at-large reports increased 37.1% to 192 from 140.
Reports of disturbing the peace rose from 41 in 2022 to 64, or 4 56.1%, in 2023.
There were 5,131 traffic stops conducted in 2023, a 16.2% increase over the 4,413 the previous year.
The number of traffic accidents remained roughly the same, with 325 in 2023 compared to 311 in 2022.
There were 235 calls for suspicious persons this past year, up 37.4% from 171 the previous year. Suspicious activity calls, meanwhile, went from 205 in 2022 to 303 in 2023, a 47.8% increase.
Among decreases, the number of reported instances of shoplifting went from 47 to 37 in 2023, a decrease of 34%. Only 17 gas drive-offs were reported in 2023 compared to 70 the year before; that’s a 75.7% change.
