The Worthington Cubs were defeated by the Jackson Bulls 7-2 in amateur baseball play on Sunday afternoon in Jackson. The loss gives the Cubs a record of 5-11 in league play and 6-11 overall. Worthington is scheduled to take the field for its regular season finale at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Ruthton.
In other amateur baseball games Sunday, it was: Windom 5, Ruthton 1; Jackson 1, Windom 0; Heron Lake 6, Lakefield 5; Luverne 13, Fox Lake 2; Luverne 19, Pipestone 1 and Hadley 4, Milroy 3.
Updated standings in the Gopher League have Luverne in first place with a record of 14 wins and 1 loss. Hadley and Milroy are in a tie for second place at 11-4. Next is Worthington at 6-11, followed by Pipestone at 4-11 and Ruthton at 3-12.
In the First Nite League, Fairmont has a record of 12-3 and has a narrow edge at the top over Windom and Jackson, which are both 12-5. Lakefield is 7-9, Heron Lake and Fox Lake are both 6-10 and Mountain Lake -- whose team has folded for the season -- is 0-18.
