Trojan boys get three winners, one relay team victor at SMSU meet

The Worthington Trojans boys track and field team placed second behind host Marshall in a Monday meet at Southwest Minnesota State University. The Tigers finished with 172 points, with WHS next at 136.5.


The Trojans had three individual winners. Austin Kinser took first in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 51.58 seconds; he also placed third in the 200. Tetlouch Gach finished first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.07 seconds, which was also a personal record, while also taking third in the 300 hurdles. Caleb Meyer was first among high jumpers with an effort of 6 feet, 2 inches.


Another first-place effort was turned in by the 4x200 relay team of Meyer, Hudson Scheepstra, Mauricio Corado and Hyrum Bates, which finished with a time of 1:39.92.


Other top-three individual placers for Worthington were Thet Tay, second in the high jump; Dillon Zepeda Carranza, third in the triple jump; and Henok Ergicho, third in the long jump.


In girls competition Monday at SMSU, Marshall also finished atop the team race at 159 points. Worthington was seventh with 43.


Tiana Garcia placed second in the triple jump and fifth in the 200 meters, achieving personal bests in both events. Shayla Juarez was fourth with a PR in the 400 and fifth in the long jump. Joy Knuckles was fourth with a PR in the 100, and Lauren Nixon was fourth in the shot put.

The Worthington Trojans girls golf team won their dual meet at Western Christian on Monday afternoon, 207-235.


Claire Meyer was the medalist, as she completed the day with the lowest round at 47. Also contributing counting rounds for the Trojans were Ava Schutz at 51, Ashtyn Krohn at 54 and Ellie DeGroot at 55.


The boys, meanwhile, also played at Western Christian and were defeated 163-188. Gerrit Larson had the lowest round for WHS with a 44. Also with counting scores for the Trojans were Brody Peterson, 47; Blake Vosburgh, 48; and Cameron Krommendyk, 49.
