Two people died as a result of a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Osceola County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2005 GMC operated by Dore Oswaldo Hernandes Canales, 27, of Sioux City was eastbound on Osceola County A-34 and a 2016 Ford Explorer operated by Benjamin Richard Gibson, 22, of Sibley was southbound on U.S. 59. Hernandes Canales reportedly failed to stop for a stop sign and the two vehicles collided, causing the GMC to roll and then collide with a water tower. The crash took place at around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.
Two passengers in the Hernandes Canales vehicle, Jessica Ricardo, 24, of Sioux City and a 9-year-old child, were pronounced dead. Two others in that vehicle, a 6-year-old juvenile and Edith Marina Canales Rivas, 54, of Sioux City, were taken by ambulance to area hospitals. A 10-year-old was also injured in the crash.
Gibson was also injured; he was transported by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital.
