Due to a rise in river level, the State Street bridge in Jackson was again shut down Tuesday.
A release from the City of Jackson noted that the decision was not made lightly and was solely based on ensuring the safety of the community. The city will reassess its ability to re-open the bridge Friday morning.
The river was anticipated to rise six inches, and the city has put safeguards in place to protect against a rise of two feet.
Emergency medical services and fire services have been dispersed amongst both sides of the river to ensure coverage for all citizens.
It is unsafe for anybody to be on or near the dikes, it was added, and it’s also unsafe for residents to enter their flooded homes until the water has receded to ground level.
