State individual wrestlers take center stage Friday

The Jackson County Central wrestling team will have 11 individuals competing in the Class A state tournament today and Saturday in St. Paul.

Qualifying as section champions are Kayden Eller (106), Nolan Ambrose (132), Thomas Freking (138), Logan Butzon (145), Isaiah Rodriguez (152), Dylan Withers (170) and Caleb Vancura (220). Moving on as section runners-up are Ben Dahlin (126), Trey Rossow (160), Matt Haley (195) and Cameron Scholten (285).


Adrian-Ellsworth will have four individuals competing at state. Travis Weiss at 113, Quentin Wolf at 182 and Cameron Wieneke at 285 qualified as section champions; Jaren Winselman is in as runner-up at 220.


Preston Xayachak will represent Windom/Mountain Lake at 106. Luverne will be “Rocking” it at state, as DJ Rock is in at 160 and Sam Rock at 170. Additionally, Bernie Rock and Cece Rock have qualified for the state girls wrestling event.


Meanwhile, the state Class A team wrestling competition took place Thursday, and top-seeded JCC turned in a repeat performance in taking the title. The Huskies first defeated West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville in round one, then bounded Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted in the semis before beating Caledonia-Houston 43-19 for the championship.
