Rural Worthington fire destroys home of family of six

A house fire reported at 3:48 a.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Oliver Avenue in rural Worthington has resulted in the loss of a home to a family of six.


The Brewster Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, and the Worthington Fire Department was also called for mutual aid. The home was fully engulfed in flames upon firefighters' arrival, and the family had made it outside safely. The Wilmont Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene.


A GoFundMe page is assisting the Joe and Angie Joswiak family following the fire and had raised more than $13,500 as of Monday morning. An effort to solicit donations for shoes and clothing items is also underway, and gifts of basic household items such as beds, sheets, dishes and toiletries are also being requested,
