Ice arena lease agreement on Monday's council meeting agenda

The Worthington City Council will consider a new ice arena lease agreement during its meeting Monday.

A memorandum included in the meeting's agenda packet for council members explains that the Worthington Hockey Association was not going to renew its Ice Hockey user agreement. In the past, the Worthington Hockey Association would pay for District 518 high school hockey’s ice time.

According to the terms of the new agreement to be considered today, starting this year, each entity will pay for its individual hours of ice time used. Due to this changed arrangement, the city will need to have a new lease agreement with the hockey association. 

The following terms of the updated lease for 2026-2027 include:

• A one-year lease of the arena to the City of Worthington. This lease will renew annually unless one of the parties gives advanced written notice.

• The City of Worthington’s responsibilities include: the inside and outside maintenance of the facilities; scheduling of events; manage and staff any arena programs including open skate times; and maintain all facility equipment.

• The Worthington Hockey Association shall: pay the city a lump sum fee of $54,625.00, for 475 hours ($115/hour, the same as last year) of specified ice time, with additional hours available at a rate of $115.00 per hour. It shall maintain the concession stand; and be responsible for everything hockey-related, other than ice maintenance.

  
  

Also Monday, council members are scheduled to consider the third and final required reading of a proposed ordinance that provides regulations for the use and operation of electric-assisted bicycles within the city.
