Windom-area volunteers, including a team from Groundmasters, a landscaping firm from Owatonna, will put their skills and compassion to use by building a new front yard terrace system for a single mom with five young kids.
The Windom mother, Melissa Ponce, lost her husband a year ago and has been working hard to support her children and maintain her home, which was built in 1863 (before Windom was a town). The non-profit Rebuilding Together Minnesota, with an office in Windom, decided to focus on Ponce’s home as part of its annual “Cottonwood County Rebuilding Day.”
Other upgrades, including a replacement window and door and other landscaping needs, will take place. Volunteers will gather from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at the home, which is located at 657 Miller Ave. in Windom.
The work, which is at no cost to the homeowner, is made possible in part by sponsors including Odell Wind Farm, Thrivent and Nickel Construction. For more information, contact Galen Kauffman, Rebuilding Together Minnesota’s Southwest Program Manager, at (507) 200-2015.
