Crash leaves Iowa man with life-threatening injuries

A northwest Iowa man sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of a crash Saturday night in Jackson County.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1997 Buick Park Avenue operated by Michael David Smith, 59, of Everly, Iowa was northbound on Minnesota 86 at milepost 2 in Jackson County's Minneota Township when it went off the roadway and rolled into the ditch. The crash was reported at 11:11 p.m. Saturday.


Smith was transported to Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake with life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was involved in the crash, the state patrol reported. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Lakefield Fire Department and Ambulance assisted at the scene.
