Council approves new YMCA agreement, permit for small business

The Worthington City Council on Monday approved a 2026 agreement with the Worthington Area YMCA to promote, manage and operate the city's summer youth recreation programs for its residents.

The city contracts with the Y annually for these services, and this year's agreement has the city paying the Y a total of $69,768 in 12 monthly installments in 2026. This represents a 5.02% increase over this past year.

Also approved during the Parks and Recreation portion of the agenda were the 2026 park user fees and Olson Park Campground rates. There's only a minor change to the 2026 park fees that involves a key deposit at Chautauqua and Centennial parks, and no change to the campground fees.

In a separate matter, the council approved a conditional use permit for Alexander Magana for the operation of a window tint and car detailing business at 1550 First Ave. Conditions include no parking on the boulevard or adjacent right-of-way, no increase in the width of the driveway openings and no increase in paving of the boulevard, and the subject property must maintain compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal standards and requirements.

Also approved Monday was the third and final reading of an ordinance that amends the city's stormwater utility rate.
