The Worthington High boys soccer team led 2-0 at the half Saturday at Austin, but the Packers rallied and the teams ultimately settled for a 2-2 tie.
Trojans head coach Juan Flores said his team played with really good intensity in the first half, but let Austin take over a bit for 20 minutes of the second half. He added that the team needs to improve upon finishing scoring chances.
Genri Ramírez and Carlos Castillo scored for WHS, now 5-0-2, which plays host to
Fairmont at 7 p.m. Tuesday. That match will air on 104.3 La Voz.

In high school football Friday night, Adrian-Ellsworth blanked Martin County West 27-0 in a game heard on 104.3 La Voz. Senior quarterback Aiden Tweet scored three touchdowns – two on one-yard runs and another from 39 yards out – and finished with 22 carries for 135 yards. Senior Kyler Kunkel had a four-yard TD run and finished with 23 carries for 100 yards. The Dragons are now 1-1.
The Worthington Trojans, meanwhile, were defeated 62-7 at Jackson County Central. Huskies quarterback Roman Voss ran for 192 yards and three TDs and also passed for a pair of scores. JCC returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns as well and outgained WHS 425-80 on the evening. Jacari Swinea got the Trojans’ lone touchdown on a 13-yard run and finished the game with 79 yards rushing on 13 carries.

In girls tennis, Austin edged Worthington 4-3 on Saturday. Earning wins for the Trojans were: Hannah McNab at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-3; Ashley Esparza and Kah Blu Moo at No. 2 doubles by scores of 6-0, 6-1; and Lily Brown and Madison Poe at No. 3 doubles by scores of 6-2, 6-3.
In previous action Thursday, St. James Area topped Worthington 7-0.

Elijah Alexander passed for 314 yards and three touchdowns and visiting Minnesota West topped No. 3 North Dakota State College of Science – ranked No. 3 nationally – 40-26 on Saturday.
Alexander tossed two TD passes to Lauren Ruth and hooked up with Marion Fluker for another score while completing 18 of 26 passes during the game. Quonterrion Brooks returned a punt 75 yards for another touchdown and Erick Tucker rushed for TD as the Bluejays improved to 2-0 on the fall.
On defense, Bryce Nutall led the Minnesota West with eight total tackles along with a forced fumble and interception. Deane Porter contributed seven tackles for the Bluejays, who led 26-10 at the half. They’ll play at Mesabi Range this coming Saturday.

Minnesota West’s volleyball team, currently ranked seventh in the country, went 4-0 during a weekend tournament in Glen Ellyn, Ill., including wins over the No. 4- and No. 15-ranked teams in the nation.
The Lady Jays got their third win of the tourney and first Saturday by blanking No. 4 College of Dupage 3-0; game scores were 28-26, 25-21, 25-18. Ella Hesse led the way with 12 kills, 11 digs and five ace serves. Kylee Larsen contributed seven kills, and Lexi Schreuers had 19 set assists and 10 digs.
On Friday, Minnesota West beat No. 15 Dallas North Lake 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-
22, 25-17. Hesse and Sadie Krahling each had eight kills and nine digs; Kadyn Paulson also chipped in with 19 digs.
After that victory, the Lady Jays blanked the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 3-0 thanks in part to five ace serves from Madi Peterson and three ace serves from Ella Thorson. The fourth win of the weekend came by a 3-0 score against Joliet. Hesse had 12 kills, 13 digs and an ace serve, while Krahling added eight kills and Abby Loosbrock had seven kills and a couple of blocks.
The Lady Jays, now 12-2, host Ridgewater at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
