WHS golf teams compete in Big South Division events

The Worthington Trojans' girls golf team placed fourth out of seven teams on a cool, windy Monday in a Big South Division event at GREATLife Worthington. St. Peter finished first in the team standings at 402 strokes; WHS was at 416.
The Trojans' Claire Meyer finished third overall among individuals for the third consecutive meet with a round of 92. Greta Mahlberg had the next-lowest score for Worthington at 104, which put her 13th. Also with counting scores for WHS were Ellie Drost and Ava Schutz, who each came in at 110.
The Trojan boys golf team, meanwhile, played in a Big South Division event in Marshall and placed sixth with a score of 353. The host Tigers earned top team honors at 313.
Cameron Krommendyk had the lowest round of the day for Worthington, carding an 83 that placed him eighth among all individuals. Gerrit Larson was second among Trojan golfers; his round of 86 had him in 16th place. Others with counting scores for WHS were Blake Vosburgh at 91 and Hunter Heitkamp at 93.

In high school baseball Monday, the Trojans played at Marshall and were blanked 8-0. The Tigers improved to 12-2 on the season with their second victory over Worthington in seven days. WHS is now 2-10 overall and next plays at home Thursday against New Ulm.

Worthington High School's boys and girls track and field team competed Monday at the Section 2AA True Team Meet in St. Peter.
Among the boys, Belle Plaine was atop the team standings with 398 points with results from 17 of 18 events tabulated. Worthington was sixth out of eight teams with 201 points.
Among the individual standouts for the Trojans was Austin Kinser, who captured the 400 meters in a time of 51.11. Over the weekend, he took fourth with a personal-best time of 50 seconds in the 400 at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls. Also Monday, Kinser finished third in the 200 meters.
Another winner for the Trojans in St. Peter was Tetlouch Gach, who crossed the finish line first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.23. Gach was also third in the 300 hurdles. This past weekend, he qualified for the 110-meter hurdles and finished 15th.
Caleb Meyer took first in the high jump Monday for WHS with a leap of 6-0; he had taken 10th in that event at the Howard Wood Relays. Additionally, Worthington had a fourth-place finish in the 4x200 relay on Monday.
In the girls competition, St. Peter had 425.5 points to lead all teams. WHS was eighth at 92.5.
The highest placer for WHS was Shayla Juarez, who came in eighth in the 400 meters. Tiana Garcia was 10th in the 200 meters; she was also 12th with a personal record in the triple jump.
