The Worthington High School girls tennis began Section 2AA tournament play with a 4-3 win at Jordan on Tuesday. In topping the No. 5 Hubmen, the No. 4 Trojans advance to next meet the winner of a match between No. 1 Prior Lake and No. 8 Mankato East/Loyola.

The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team picked up its 15th win of the season without a loss on Tuesday night, shutting out New Ulm 6-0 on the road.

The Trojans, who concluded the first half with a 1-0 edge over New Ulm thanks to a goal by Charles Saydee, went on to score five times in the final 40 minutes. The first three goals were credited to Elmer Guzman, Menkem Mehri and Ulises Barrera; Jonathan Banegas had the last two goals.

In addition to earning their 15th victory, the Trojans have also improved to No. 3 this week in the Minnesota State Class AA Poll. Worthington has one match left in the regular season, as it will play at Fairmont on Thursday.

Sectional play will begin next week, and Worthington is currently positioned as the section’s number two seed behind Mankato West.
