Worthington Legion squad finishes regular season with loss to Marshall

Worthington's Senior American Legion baseball team concluded its regular season Monday night with a 14-2, five-inning loss at Marshall.

Post 5 was originally scheduled to play a doubleheader Monday, but that was changed earlier in the day. Worthington collected six hits against a team head coach Austin Nunez said should be seeded first in the upcoming substate tournament. Chase Byrne had two of those hits, while Austin Gruis, Dalton Larson, Lucas Hohenstein and Dominic Pavelko had the others,

Max Ostrem was the starting pitcher and was hit hard, though some shaky Worthington fielding didn't help. Of the 11 runs he allowed over 2 2/3 innings, only four were earned.

Byrne tossed the final 1 1/3 innings for Post 5, which finished the regular season with a 7-8 record. The substate tourney is next week in New Ulm.
