Trojans boys soccer squad rolls to home shutout over Fairmont
The Worthington High School boys soccer team turned in a dominating performance Tuesday night at Trojan Field in an 8-0 blanking of Fairmont.
Kain Thepmontry scored on a penalty kick that came about when Fairmont was called for a handball in the penalty box. With the Cardinal goalkeeper diving to his right, Thepmontry beat him to his left to make it 1-0 with 27:29 to go in the first half.
Eiby Ramos later made it 2-0 as he netted a goal following a Trojan corner kick with 7:25 remaining before the break.
In the second half, WHS picked up where right where it left off and got its third goal with just about five minutes gone by when Erick Lopez knocked a shot to the right of the Fairmont keeper and into the net. Then, with nearly 16 and a half minutes gone by, Samuel Togba eluded three defenders and got the fourth WHS goal. Maurico Corado then got in the scoring column nearly two minutes later following a corner kick for a 5-0 advantage.
Thepmontry later scored his second goal of the night with about 12:30 remaining, and Ramos got his second with a little less than 10 minutes to go. Both of those goals were assisted by Alfredo Martinez. Angel Chacon capped the latest Trojan offensive explosion with a goal with under a minute left.
The Trojans are now 5-1-1 on the year and have won four straight.

The Worthington High girls tennis team played at home Tuesday afternoon and was edged by Waseca 4-3.
The Trojans got wins at No. 3 singles from Isabella Poe, as she earned a 6-2 6-2
victory, and at No. 4 singles Isabella Kouame was triumphant 7-6 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Worthington's LweKaPaw Ehmu and Lisbeth Soto won 6-1 5-7 6-3.
Waseca got its two singles victories in straight sets and both its doubles wins in three sets. The Trojans' No. 1 doubles duo of Emma Hietbrink and Claire Schultz was defeated 4-6 6-4 6-4, and the No. 2 tandem of Maria Shwe and Nallely Escalante was beaten 3-6 6-0 6-0.

The Minnesota West volleyball team won a pair of matches Monday in a triangular event at the Center for Health and Wellness in Worthington.
The Lady Jays first defeated the Dakota Wesleyan JV 3-1 by game scores of 25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22. Against Iowa Lakes, they won 21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-22.
In the Dakota Wesleyan match, Ava Karbo led the way with 12 kills and Katelyn Hoefling and Aleah Wagner added seven kills. Wagner had three ace serves for Minnesota West and Olivia Locke and Kyrie Matucha had two each. Wagner had 19 digs and Locke 17; Karbo added a combined five blocks. Aubrey Weedman passed for 27 set assists.
Against Iowa Lakes, Wagner connected for 16 kills while Karbo and Ellyanna Sand had 14 apiece. Weedman recorded six ace serves and also passed for 38 set assists. Matucha topped the defensive effort with 19 digs; Karbo had a combined three blocks.
The Lady Jays are now 11-5 overall.

Ayla Texley represented the Minnesota West women's golf team over the weekend at the Wartburg Invite in Waverly, Iowa. Texley carded an 89 in Saturday's first day of play and then tied her best round on Sunday with an 82. She tied for 70th in the event. The Lady Jays next have a dual meet on Sept. 27 against Iowa Lakes.

In area high school volleyball Monday, Adrian-Ellsworth swept Pipestone Area 3-0 by game scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-23. The Dragons improved to 4-3 overall on the season.
