Lady Jays move from No. 7 to No. 6 in new national volleyball poll

The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team moved up a spot from seventh to sixth in the new NJCAA Division 3 poll released Monday.


The top five teams in the poll — Dallas College-Eastfield, Sandhills Community College, Dallas College-Brookhaven, College of DuPage and Rochester Community and Technical College — remain the same as last week. Minnesota West will play at the Yellow Jackets in a big MCAC matchup on Friday night.

The Minnesota West men's soccer team dropped to 0-3 on the season on Sunday as it lost at Riverland Community College, 8-0.


Riverland tallied four goals each in the first and second halves. The Bluejays will be off until this coming Sunday, when they play at Alexandria. They'll then be idle until Sept. 30, when they play host to Riverland.

The Worthington Trojans' girls tennis team was defeated on the road last week by Belle Plaine, 6-1.


Isabella Poe was the sole victor for the Trojans as she got a win at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-4, 2-1. While all of the other matches were decided in straight sets, two of them saw tight first sets. At No. 1 singles Worthington's Lily Brown was beaten 7-6, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, the Trojans' Claire Schultz lost 7-6 6-2.


Worthington is scheduled to host Waseca on Tuesday afternoon.
