WHS, Tri-City United to play Thursday for Big South boys soccer crown
The Worthington Trojans’ boys soccer team will look to bounce back from just its second loss of the season against the team that dealt them their first loss.
The Trojans will play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Tri-City United in the Big South Conference championship match. Worthington has an overall record of 12-2-1 and went 6-0 in Big South Gold Division play, while the Titans are 13-1-1 and finished the Big South Black Division schedule with a 6-0 mark.
WHS and Tri-City United met back on Sept. 3 on the Titans’ home field and the Trojans were edged 2-1. The Trojans took 1-0 advantage in the first half thanks to a Kain Thepmomtry goal, but the Titans picked up the pressure in the second half and ultimately took the triumph.
Following the loss, Worthington went on to embark on an 11-match winning streak that came to a conclusion Tuesday with a 2-0 loss to Southwest Minnesota Christian in Edgerton. The lone Tri-City United defeat this season came on Sept. 26, when the Titans fell 2-1 at Westonka. The Trojans opened their season with a 1-1 tie with Westonka on Aug. 27.
