WHS tops Luverne, lose to Pipestone Area in wrestling; gymnasts win

The Worthington Trojans wrestling team competed Thursday in a triangular meet at Pipestone.

The Trojans won a forfeit-heavy match against Luverne to start their night, 51-15. Only two Worthington wrestlers won individual matches, as Sam Dagel won by fall at 114 pounds in 1:53 for his 50th career win and Kian Ling captured a 5-1 decision at 152. The remaining 42 points came via the forfeit route.

It was Pipestone Area edging the Trojans later in the meet, 34-32. Dominic Larson, Dagel and Bly Scott each won by fall at 107, 114 and 121, respectively, to get WHS off a stong start. The Arrows scored the match's next 17 points, but Ling won by major decision at 152 to give the Trojans a five-point edge. Austin Gruis earned a major decision at 189 and Raylen Teerink won by fall at 215 for the other Worthington points; the Arrows won the 285-pound match by fall to clinch the match.
