WHS plays host to multiple other schools at annual Trojan Relays

The Trojan Relays took place Tuesday at Trojan Field, and Worthington placed third in the Class AA Division with 101.5 points. Fairmont was first with 174.5.


For the Trojans, Tetlouch Gach won the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.22 seconds and also placed second in the 300 hurdles. Austin Kinser finished first in the 400 meters in 50.66 and second in the 200, and Caleb Meyer captured the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches.


Other strong efforts for WHS came from: Dillon Zepeda Carranza, second with a personal record in the triple jump and fourth in the 200; Hudson Scheeptra, third in the 110 hurdles, Cameron Kinser, fifth in the 400; Elyjah Beruke, sixth with a PR in the long jump; and Thaw Wah, seventh with a PR in the 800. The WHS 4x200 relay team also took second.


Jackson County Central also competed in the AA Division and placed sixth as a team. Top Huskies finishers included James Atura, second in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles; David Botello Ramos, second in the 3200; Grant Ambrose, fourth in the 300 hurdles and tied for fourth in the pole vault; Isaac Hesebeck, fourth in the long jump; Ever Munoz, tied for fourth in the pole vault; Gage Johnson, sixth with a PR in the shot put; and Isaiah Meium-Bratrud, sixth with a PR in the high jump.


In Trojan Relays girls competition, Fairmont was first with 179 points. JCC was fourth with 87; the Trojans were fifth with 56.5.


Top finishers for WHS included: Tiana Garcia, third in the 200 meters and fourth in the triple jump; Shayla Juarez, third in the 400 and sixth in the long jump; Madison Sieve, fourth in the 1600 and seventh in the 800; Emily Dahlquist, fifth with a PR in the 1600 and sixth with a PR in the 800; Jana Sola Garcia, fourth with a PR in the long jump; and Mara Thier, seventh with a PR in the high jump.


For the Huskies, Allison Luebben won the long jump with an effort of 15 feet, 6 inches and was second in the 100 meters. Natalia Botello-Ramos won the 100 in 12.94 seconds. Other top finishers included: Stevie Untiedt, second with a PR in the 400; Naiya Ayers, second in the 3200; Lincoln Gorden, third with a PR in the high jump; Aliza Liepold, sixth with a PR in the shot put; and Arianna Hanson, seventh in the 100 hurdles. JCC's 4x200 relay team finished first, and its 4x400 relay team was third.

The Worthington Trojans boys golf team played at the Big South Conference Championship meet at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton and finished eighth.


St Peter came in atop the team standings at 321 strokes, well ahead of the 342 score of second-place New Ulm. Marshall was third at 353, followed by Luverne at 364. The Trojans came in with a cumulative score of 388.


Scoring the day's lowest round for WHS was eighth-grader Cameron Krommendyk, who carded an 88 that placed him 12th among all individuals. Another eighth-grader, Blake Vosburgh, shot a 96 for the Trojans. Gerrit Larson and Tyson Petersen each had rounds of 102. Worthington had no players earn all-conference honors.


Among other teams also taking part in Tuesday's meet were Jackson County Central, ninth; Windom Area, 10th; and Pipestone Area, 12th.


The Trojan boys and girls golf teams are slated to compete in a multi-team meet in Jackson on Friday.

In high school softball, visiting Luverne routed Worthington 23-3 in a game shortened to four innings.


The Cardinals scored five runs in the top of the first inning on just one hit, then added on 12 more runs in the second. The winless Trojans tallied all three of their runs in the bottom of the second.


WHS next plays at Windom on Thursday.
