WHS gymnasts post season-best score in victory

The Worthington Trojans gymnastics team continued its trend of improvement Tuesday, scoring a new season high in points with a 141.555-134.175 home win over Pipestone Area.


The Trojans swept the top five spots on the bars to highlight their effort. Brooklyn Dykstra came out on top with a score of 9.25 and 0was followed in order by teammates Jada Milbrath, Kenadie Thiner, Jordis Weber and Marley Phomsatry.


On the beam, Worthington individuals finished second through fifth with Milbrath in the No. 2 spot, followed in order by Lucy Thier, Weber and Thiner. Trojan gymnasts took the second through fourth places on the floor, with Dykstra second followed by Thier and Phomsatry. WHS athletes were third through fifth on the vault. with Phomsatry third, Lazzu fourth and Dysktra fifth.


Dykstra finished second in the all-around at 35.1 points. Pipestone Area's Kaysa Douty had 35.875. and won the vault, beam and floor.


The Trojans are now ranked 10th in the state.

The Worthington Trojans girls basketball team lost their second home game in two nights Tuesday as they were beaten by Jackson County Central, 93-58.


JCC, which won its sixth straight, never trailed as it scored the game's first seven points. The Huskies put up points in a hurry early, as they led 27-10 when Worthington called a timeout just over five and a half minutes in.


WHS trailed 54-27 at the half and never got within 25 points of the lead in the

second half. Riley Cother, who surpassed the 2,000-career-points mark last week, led the Huskies Tuesday with 29 points. For the Trojans,  Jayden Spartz had 16 points, Alaina Feit and Madison Sieve had 11 each and Grace Barber 10.


Worthington, which was edged by Westbrook-Walnut Grove 53-50 on Monday night, is now 1-13.

In boys basketball Tuesday night, JCC beat visiting Worthington 74-58.

In high school girls hockey Monday night, the Trojans were defeated at Mankato West, 6-2. Breeta Johnson and Taylor Nickel scored goals for Worthington, which is now 3-11.
