WHS gymnastics totals 141.275 points in win over Redwood Valley

The Worthington Trojans gymnastics tuned up for Saturday's Big South Conference meet by defeating visiting Redwood Valley 141.275 to 128.775 on Thursday night.
Lucy Thier won the all-around competition for Worthington with a score of 35.525. Teammate Jada Milbrath was next for the Trojans, as she was third with 34.65. Isabella Lazzu was a close fourth at 34.45.
Olivia Bullerman of WHS came out on top in the vault competition with a score of 9.25. Milbrath finished second at 9.1, and Lazzu was third at 9.075. On the bars, Thier's score of 8.7 was good enough for first place, with Milbrath second at 8.65, Claire Meyer fourth at 8.35 and Lazzu fifth at 8.3
Meyer won the beam for the Trojans as she got a score of 8.75, which was just ahead of Thier's 8.7. Milbrath was fourth at 8.625 and Brooklyn Dykstra fifth at 8.55. On the floor, Thier won with a score of 9.425, with Lazzu placing second at 9.325.
Saturday's Big South Conference meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Blue Earth.

Fourth-seeded New Ulm put an end to fifth-seeded Worthington's girls hockey season Thursday night by blanking the visiting Trojans 8-0.
New Ulm got its initial goal just 2:03 into the game and maintained that 1-0 edge through the remainder of the first period. The Trojans had a couple of two-minute power play opportunities but couldn't capitalize.
The Eagles got off to an even quicker start in the second period with a goal 26 seconds into the action. New Ulm got another goal at the 6:16 mark and made it 4-0 at 12:04 to expand their advantage, then blew things open with four more goals in the third period.
Brielynn Weston had two goals and an assist for New Ulm, and eighth-grader Callie Haugen also had a pair of goals. The Eagles outshot the Trojans 35-30 on the night.
Worthington concludes its girls hockey season with a record of 9-14.

In boys hockey, the Trojans were on the road in Marshall and were beaten 8-1.
The Tigers' Jake Allen scored four times in the game as Marshall led 2-0 after the first period and 7-0 at the end of the second. Marshall ended up putting 53 shots on net while Worthington managed just 10.
The Trojans have now dropped 10 consecutive games and are 2-20. They have a home game at 7 p.m. tonight against Morris-Benson Area.

In high school wrestling Thursday night, Worthington defeated quadrangular host St. James-Madelia 42-24 and lost to Adrian Area 48-25.
In their first match, the Trojans benefitted from wins by fall from Bly Scott (114 pounds), Sam Dagel (127), Miguel Moreno (139), Bryan Gonzales (172) and Raylen Teerink (189). Kian Ling won by technical fall at 152, Jace Riemersma-Feit by major decision at 121 and Arthur Htoo by decision at 160.
Against Adrian-Area, Scott won by fall at 114 and WHS picked up 12 more points via two forfeits. Dominic Larson earned a victory by technical fall at 107 pounds, and Dagel won by decision at 121. For the Dragons, Jackson Penning (133), Travis Weiss (139), Cael Schettler (152), Cole Erlandson (160), Jackson Jenniges (172), Caleb Wolf (189) and Garett Penning (289) all won by fall, and Adrian Area also got six points by forfeit at 215.
The Dragons also picked up a team triumph Thursday against Waseca 35-32. Schettler (145) and Jenniges (160) each won by fall. Adrian Area got a forfeit at 121 pounds, Penning (127) and Wolf (189) each won by technical fall, Bullerman (215) won by major decision and Weiss (133) won by decision.
