WHS girls, boys golf teams play in Friday meet in Fairmont

The Worthington Trojans girls golf team placed third Friday at the 13-team Fairmont Invitational.


Marshall had the lowest cumulative score of all schools with a 375. Fairmont wound up at 397, followed by the Trojans at 413.


Trojans sophomore Claire Meyer wound up with the best score of the day for Worthington, as she carded a 94 for her 18-hole round to place seventh among all individuals. Senior Claire Mahlberg was next at 104 — 18th among all individuals -- followed by eighth-grader Ava Schutz in 20th overall at 107 and Callie Rosenberg in 24th overall at 108. Also competing for the WHS varsity were seventh-grader Ellie Drost (122) and senior Peyton Nickel (128).


In boys competition in Fairmont, Holy Family Catholic was the top team finisher with a score of 291. That was 25 strokes ahead of second-place New Ulm at 326. Waseca was third at 327 and Blue Earth Area fourth at 328. Worthington was 13th at 382.


Senior Ryan Dorcey had the lowest round for the Trojans with an 18-hole score of 89 that placed him 37th among all individuals. Seventh-grader Cameron Krommendyk was next at 95, followed by sophomore Gerret Larson at 96 and senior Spenser Nickel at 102. Also competing for the WHS varsity were senior Ayden Stugelmeyer (104) and sophomore Tyson Petersen (109). 


Both of the Worthington High golf teams are scheduled to play Monday in Big South Conference events. The girls will be at Waseca Lakeside Golf Course, while the boys will be at New Ulm Country Club.

The Worthington Trojans softball team lost their third straight game Saturday afternoon, as they were defeated at Albert Lea 14-3.


The Trojans now have a record of 5-7 this spring. They'll next play on Thursday at home against New Ulm. You can catch the action at 5:30 p.m. on 104.3 La Voz.
