The community of Worthington will celebrate Welcoming Week Sept. 14-19 with the film screening of "Abrazos" at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center. The screening will be hosted by Kivu Immigration Law.
Preceding the showing, Attorney Erin Schutte Wadzinski of Kivu Immigration Law will lead a Q&A about immigration law.
"Abrazos" features children with U.S. citizenship who travel 3,000 miles from Worthington to visit their parents' homeland of Guatemala.
At 7:45 p.m., a moderated conversation will begin with local parents and children who were featured in "Abrazos."
Welcoming Week in Worthington also includes:
* Free entrance to the Worthington Area YMCA all week
* Free swimming lessons on Sept. 16 at the Worthington Area YMCA for 10 adults and six youths (sign-up required).
* A #BelongingBeginsWithUs event at the Plaza from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 that will offer a place to eat, celebrate the community and offer an opportunity to learn from various entities in the community such as the Cross Cultural Advisory Committee and others.
Activities are supported by the Southwest Initiative Foundation in partnership with Pioneer PBS and Southwest Minnesota Arts Council.
