Two hurt in Jackson County Thanksgiving Day crash

A crash late in the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day just north of Iowa/Minnesota border sent two people to the hospital.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a 2014 Volkswagen Passat operated by Steven Bringhurst, 80, of Box Elder, South Dakota, was southbound on Jackson County 5 when it swerved to avoid a deer. The vehicle went into the west ditch, traveled over a driveway and hit a tractor parked in the driveway before rolling onto its roof. The crash took place shortly before 5 p.m.

Bringhurst and a passenger, Carol Bringhurst, also of Box Elder, were both transported by ambulance to Sanford Worthington Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Heavy damage was reported to both the Volkswagen and tractor.
