Area high school student-athletes marked their first day of practice on Monday, and the countdown is now underway to the first sporting events of the fall.
The Worthington Trojans girls tennis team is scheduled to compete in its first meet of the new season on Friday when it travels to MACCRAY. The boys soccer team, meanwhile, will begin its quest to return to the state tournament when it plays its first match on Thursday, Aug. 24; the Trojans will be at home at 7 p.m. against St. James/Windom/Madelia. The girls soccer team will also face St. James/Windom/Madelia on the road that same evening.
The Worthington High School volleyball team will also open its season on Thursday, Aug. 24, as it will face Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda in a 7:15 p.m. home match. For the Trojans' cross country team, they'll head to Marshall on Monday, Aug. 28 for their first meet of the year.
Finally, the Trojans' football team will kick off its regular season on Thursday, Aug. 31, when it plays a 7p.m. game at Luverne.
