Trojans football makes it two in a row with late TD to knock off Albert Lea
The Worthington Trojans football team is now on a winning streak.
Isaiah Schroeder and Hyrum Bates connected on a 26-yard touchdown pass with 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter Friday as the visiting Trojans earned their second victory in a row, 19-13, over Albert Lea. WHS, which was winless in nearly two seasons until last week, is now 2-2 on the year.
The Trojans got on the board with a little more than four minutes gone by in the game when Arthur Htoo scored on a 14-yard run. Then, nearly halfway through the second quarter, Austin Gruis reached the end zone on an 11-yard toss from Schroeder, and a successful PAT kick made it 13-0 Worthington. Albert Lea, now also 2-2 this season, scored with a little less than six minutes to go before halftime, then added a punt-return touchdown and PAT early in the third quarter to knot things up at 13.
Kian Ling finished the game with 136 yards rushing for the Trojans, which Schroeder was 6-11 passing for 74 yards. Ling and Gruis had two catches apiece. Defensively, Gruis led WHS with eight total tackles. Htoo contributed a fumble recovery and Hudson Scheepstra added an interception.
The Trojans will next play their homecoming game on Friday against New Ulm.

Adrian-Ellsworth enjoyed a happy homecoming Friday night as the Dragons upended previously unbeaten and fifth-ranked Edgerton 22-20. Charger Erlandson ran for a pair of touchdowns, including one of 60 yards, and also had a team-leading 12 tackles as well as a fumble recovery. Jackson enniges had the other TD and 11 tackles as A-E improved to 2-2.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda improved to 3-1 this season by routing Red Rock Central 60-19. Mason Kirchner ran for 144 yards and two TDs for the Coyotes, and Truman Olsem and Bryce Nielsen each also scored twice.
Sibley-Ocheyedan is now 1-3 following a 23-6 loss to MMCRU, and Jackson County Central, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 2A, is 4-0 following a 48-0 triumph over Pipestone Area.

The Minnesota West volleyball team won a pair of MCAC matches on the road this weekend, improving to 17-7 overall this season and 6-1 in conference play.
The Lady Jays, ranked sixth in the most recent NJCAA Division 3 poll, played at Minnesota State-Fergus Falls on Friday night and earned a 3-1 triumph. Game scores were 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19.
On Saturday afternoon, Minnesota West won 3-0 at St. Cloud Tech in a trio of tightly contested games. Scores were 26-24, 25-21, 25-23.
The Lady Jays next play Wednesday at Ridgewater.

The WHS girls tennis team competed Friday at Blue Earth and was defeated 5-2.
Lily Brown scored a straight-set win at No. 1 singles for the Trojans with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph. Kah Blu Moo was also victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6.
Worthington lost four of the five other matches in straight sets. The No. 3 tandem of Lisbeth Soto and Paw Soe fell in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
