The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team trailed upstart Hutchinson-Glencoe Silver Lake 1-0 at the half Tuesday, and then came out and dominated the second half en route to a 4-1 victory in a quarterfinal match on the Section 2AA Tournament at Trojan Field.
The Trojans, the section’s No. 1 seed, came out after halftime with a visible sense of urgency. It was Jonathan Banegas scoring the first of his two goals on the night on a rebound 8:26 into the second half to tie the score, and Danny Banegas poked home a loose ball in front of the net with exactly 19 minutes gone by for a 2-1 Trojans edge. Carlos Castillo knocked in ball that got away from the Tigers’ goalkeeper with 6:33 remaining for a 3-1 lead, and Jonathan Banegas concluded the scoring with 4:52 to go.
Worthington is now 15-2 overall on the season and advances to a semifinal match to be played at 6 p.m. Thursday at Trojan Field. The Trojans will meet No. 4 seed Mound-Westonka, which edged fifth-seeded Mankato West 1-0 on Tuesday.

In girls soccer, Worthington’s season came to an end as St. Peter blanked the seventh-seeded Trojans by a score of 8-0.

In girls volleyball Tuesday night, host WHS took care of Jackson County Central in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
The Trojans had a good night serving, as Addison Gerber and Abryona Erwin recorded three ace serves apiece while Madeline Peterson added two aces and Grace Barber one. Madison Beckmann led the offensive attack with 10 kills. Jayden Spartz had a team-leading five digs, and Gerber passed for 19 set assists.
Worthington, now 11-14-1, will play at Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday night.
