Trojan marching band takes first in Algona, Iowa

The Spirit of Worthington Trojan Marching Band won top band honors following the Algona Band Day parade event Saturday afternoon in Algona, Iowa.

The 73rd annual event was comprised of approximately 20 bands, including the Worthington ensemble, which performed its “Takin’ It to the Streets” show. The band, under the direction of first-year WHS instructor Mike Thompson, earned its honors one week after its first-place performance in the Tri-State Band Festival.

The Trojan band will play this Saturday at the March to the Meridian event in Yankton, South Dakota; the parade competition begins at 9:30 a.m. in downtown Yankton. After a weekend off, the band will then travel to Anoka to compete in an Oct. 30 Halloween parade.
