Motorists traveling on Interstate 90 from the South Dakota border to east of Beaver Creek were expected to see changes in traffic control starting Monday as crews move to the second stage of construction, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Starting Monday until Wednesday, traffic will be temporarily reduced to a single lane in each direction in the eastbound and westbound lanes from the South Dakota border to west of Luverne.
The eastbound Beaver Creek Rest Area located west of the South Dakota border was also expected to reopen to the public on Monday. The rest area has been closed since the start of construction in early June.
Beginning Wednesday, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction in the eastbound lanes from the South Dakota border to west of Luverne. Construction during this stage will require entrance and exit ramp closures on westbound I-90 at Minnesota 23 and the entrance ramp closure at Rock County 4. Ramp closures will also be required at Rock County 6 for approximately one week for paving, with the timing yet to be determined.
During the final stage of construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from the South Dakota border to east of Luverne.
Construction on I-90 is expected to be complete in November, weather permitting. The project includes a concrete pavement overlay on the eastbound and westbound lanes and reconstruction of shoulders. The project also includes the extension of outside ramp shoulders for truck parking, guardrail repair and improved drainage with the cleaning, repair and replacement of culverts and pipes.
Duininck Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $22,483,064.90.
