In boys soccer Tuesday, the Worthington Trojans boys soccer team earned a 9-0 road win over Southwest Minnesota Christian in Edgerton.


The WHS defensive unit had another dominant evening, allowing no shots on goal in the match and picking up its second shutout in three matches. On the offensive side, the Trojans had total of 19 shots on goal and managed to score nine goals. Credited with goals were Jonathan Banegas (who had three), Elmer Guzman, Valerio Santizo, Santos Orellana, Dalen Gonzales, Menkem Mehri and Francisco Esteban.


The boys will be back to play in front of a home crowd at 7 p.m. Thursday against New Ulm.


In girls soccer. WHS came up short on the road against Southwest Minnesota Christian, 10-0. Trojans head coach Emily Ahlquist reported that Worthington was down 3-0 at halftime and then surrendered seven more goals in the second half. Ultimately, she said, the Trojans were just not pressuring the ball or getting to the ball first. Ahlquist added that the team met at the end of the game to address the issues it had during the game and hopefully will be able to put the effort behind it, learn from it and move on.


Among those scoring for Southwest Minnesota Christian during the game were Malaya Lawrence (three goals), and Alexandra McCauley and Ava Schock (two goals each).
